In this extended review of phytoceramides/plant fillers, I?m addressing the questions on everyone?s lips at the moment, namely:
? What are phytoceramides?
? How do phytoceramides help us look younger?
So just what are phytoceramides?
Ceramides have been used extensively for many years but usually come from animal sources, whereas phytoceramides are extracted exclusively from sweet potato, wheat or rice. Ceramides are components that penetrate each of the four levels of our skin, from the epidermis or top layer, right down to the basal layer. We?ve used them for decades in our skin care and hair products as they are known for their abilities to look in moisture and keep our skin looking younger, healthier and plumper. By looking in moisture, wrinkles are less pronounced and the skin looks rejuvenated, thus we look younger!
With phytoceramides, we?re taking a tablet that targets skin care and locks in water from the inside out, plus we have the added advantage that we?re not consuming animal products.
How do phytoceramides work?
There are several ways in which phytoceramides are known to encourage and maintain healthier, younger-looking skin:
? Phytoceramides contain lipids that are the same as those found naturally in our skin; they mimic their actions to plump out the skin
? Phytoceramides penetrate each of the four layers of our skin (known as dermal layers)
? Phytoceramides stimulate the production of collagen, which plumps the skin and increases elasticity
? Phytoceramides encourage a protective barrier against infections and inflammation, helping with problems such as dry skin, sun damage and patches
? Phytoceramides keep our skin hydrated, retaining moisture and helping stave off wrinkles
? Phytoceramides slow the aging process and can even reverse existing signs of aging such as crow?s feet, from the inside out
Here?s the thing, we?ve only touched on a few verticals in the natural, organic, green and bioactive community of topical anti-age remedies, and we are only uncovering the surface. Hopefully, we?ve shed some light on a conversation-worthy topic that has us seeing results during the process. The intention of most natural skincare companies is not to confuse, trick or misguide consumers. It?s really about giving them what they want, or what they think the skincare consumer wants. Or needs. Or is it the natural consumer? The truth is, most well-known brands and skincare companies have worked hard to not be labelled or categorized as one of ?those companies? that puts harmful chemicals, sulphates, parabens or ceramide fillers (clogging particles) into their facial products, as the general public?s awareness is now as heightened as never before. Most companies have made huge efforts to also find more plant-based ways of penetrating the skin; a job once delegated to chemically based brighteners, lighteners, exfoliants, plumpers and line-reducers. And truth is, the plant-based powerhouses have always existed and in general, can often get the job of age reversal done in equally effective ways, without side effects and down time. Often better.
As confusing as it may be to many of us, science is on our side. As manufacturers find it less necessary to include unwanted?and even harmful?ingredients. What a terrific time to be reversing the signs of age and revealing a better you. No matter how you or any of us define ?natural?, there?s a remedy for everyone. Now, how pro-gorgeous is that?
